Payton Regatta 2010 Recap
The weekend started off Friday night at Commodore Sprinkman's house. Our members enjoyed a backyard grill-out, with brats, dogs and a variety of side dishes and desserts. The rain and storms held out until the bitter end. We enjoyed great food and drink and time with friends. I wanted to thank everyone who participated and those who brought along a dish to pass. The nightcap was a spectacular rainbow over the bay.
On Saturday those who sailed experienced high winds. I sailed with Lon Schoor on the H7, most Es sailed with four crew members, we had three, and it took all our skills to keep the shiny side down. I have to admit, the downwind ride was out of this world. We were fortunate to hold on, stay right-side up and finished 2nd. We retired before the second race, no sense on risking crew and equipment. Patrick Heaney and Lance Puccio stayed the course and finished the second race.
The MC fleet raced for the Payton Trophy. From what I could tell, they too had a tough time keeping the boats upright. I recall going by Jerry Simon with him waving us on as he sat on the bottom of his boat waiting for Harvey and a tow. The Keel Boats and crew persevered that day, with their furled sails and heavy keels they weathered the high winds.
I recall seeing Donny Anderson flying on a downwind in his Laser SB3, it looked like a ton of fun, plus he was not hiking his butt off over the rail, bonus!
Saturday afternoon we met back at the park to watch the children sail their Optis and share in a family style picnic. Stoddards Catering supplied the succulent pig and the rest of us brought plenty of other tasty treats. The kids had a ball sailing in front of Burrows Park as the adults cheered them on.I want to thank Greg Simon and Jamie Hanson for organizing the Opti event.
On Sunday, the heavy winds subsided. A few of us met at the park to award Stephan Schmidt his Payton Regatta trophy and snapped a few pictures. I want to thank Anma and the rest of the Race Committee, as well as all the MYC members who participated in the social events and of course those who competed.
Regards, Commodore Sprinkman

Islandpolloza was a great way to kick off the social season.
Great island food, pink drinks, and friends on the dance floor not seen since last summer made for a fun filled evening. The concert DVD got us all in the mood for summer and a parrot worked the party!
(If you have pictures send them along because this camera wasn't the best.)
2010 Sailor's Social
A great time was had by all this past Wednesday at the 2nd Annual Sailor's Social held at the Coliseum Bar. Approximately 125 sailors from around the greater Madison area came together to catch up with old friends, meet new ones, talk sailing, and and cheer on their favorite local club commodore. Six local Commodores stepped forward to represent their club in this years Commodore's Challenge which turned out to be a test the skill and ability to tie various knots while blindfolded, or behind their backs. Congrats to Mendota Yacht Clubs Commodore, Trey Sprinkman for taking home this year's trophy!!
