The lakes are finally thawing and we're sure the Mendota Yacht Club members are anxious to get back on the water. We are writing to share information with you about an exciting event happening on June 21, 2014, Lake Wingra at Vilas Park - the 4th Capital Lakes DragonFest. The DragonFest is presented by TEAMSurvivor Madison, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that provides free and low-cost fitness programs for women surviving any cancer diagnosis. Form a team and support our efforts by "paddling for a purpose".
What’s a dragon boat festival? 40 foot-long boats – each filled with 20 people paddling in unison, a steersperson, and a drummer – racing each other along a watery course, while bringing friends, family and community together for a common cause.
Form a team of 20 paddlers, 3 alternates and 1 drummer, made up of your co-workers, peers, friends and/or family. No experience is necessary. We provide the boat, paddles, life jackets, experienced steersperson, and a coached practice session so your team is ready for an action packed day on the water. Visit our website for details of team registration and sponsorship opportunities and benefits: www.capitallakesdragonfest.com
Come celebrate the summer solstice at the Capital Lakes DragonFest. Get a team together - or come for the excitement of cheering on teams. Starting with the dragon awakening ceremony, followed by entertainment throughout the day, an inspiring cancer survivor ceremony, and then closing with the winning teams award ceremony - it's guaranteed to be a great experience! Hope to see you there.
